The Kananaksis Country of Southern Alberta is a magical wild space. This piece’s story has me and my friend above the waterfall. We clambered across the jumble of rocks. They were perfectly placed beneath towering rock walls on either side of the ravine, the sun reaching down onto what lay ahead. The gentle flow of the water persistently whispered, “Follow Me.” We listened and accepted the call, finding calmness in the rhythm of the ravine as our exploration continued.

In the wild spaces, there is a perfect position for each rock, tree, and water movement. We see splendor in the disarray, which gifts us harmony and an awareness that we are part of something greater than ourselves.

Had we witnessed the creation of this natural space in a time-lapse video, it would have been loud, powerful and a wild change. Nature does not use straight lines or symmetry in these moments but creates perfectly in her chaos, leaving a calmness through her making. Stay the course during upheaval and be patient for the stillness that awaits you.
